About Exuma
Maldives of the western hemisphere
Although most people have heard of Nassau, Great Exuma has remained a lessor-known gem. David Copperfield, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, Nicolas Cage and Johnny Depp are just a few of the celebrities who own private islands along the Exuma Chains, which consists of 36 cays running south like pearls down the famously blue and turquoise waters. This endowment of jewels represents more than half of all 700 islands found in the Bahamas.
A growing hot spot for adventurous, trendy world travellers, the secret is out on Exuma, with the chain praise and press coverage in Forbes, Sports Illustrated, Vanity Fair, Travel + Leisure, the Wall Street Journal and Islands magazine.
Exuma has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years, fueled by new resort developments, second-home properties, restaurants, bars and tourism attractions. For those seeking privacy, exclusivity and a more pristine, tropical experience, Exuma has become a pleasing alternative to more commercial and well-trodden destinations.
World-class fishing, golfing, diving, snorkeling and yachting await you as you discover the Maldives of the western hemisphere.
The main island, which is around 60km in length, is home to the capital city of George Town. All told, the Exuma chain of islands has an intimate and friendly population of some 5,000 people.
